All About Tripp

How long have you been racing?
I started racing in the Big Wheel Class at the age of 3.  At the age of 4, my first Jr. Dragster was purchased.  My Jr. Drag Racing career started with the 2013 season at Firebird when I was old enough to license at 8 years old (it is now 5).

How did you get into Jr Dragster?
Motorsports of some form have been in my family for decades.  My life at the drag strip began at eight-months in utero, and I have been addicted since.  Serving as the official "Tire Man" on my Grandfather's 1968 Dodge Dart Super Gas car from the time I was in a walker at seven-months old, I have always had a passion for the intensity and skill involved with drag racing.

What is your favorite thing about racing?
My favorite thing about drag racing used to be winning.  As I get older, it's more about spending time with my family, my track family, and my friends at the track (winning is nice, too) :)

What is your favorite track to race on?
I enjoy the challenge of racing on a track that I have never raced on before, buy my favorite tracks are my home tracks, Wild Horse Pass, where I won my first race, and Tucson Dragway, where I won my 1st Wally.

What is one word that describes you best?
The word that best describes me is determined.

What sets you apart from other racers?
This question is a great question to follow the previous question; what word best describes me.  I am very determined.  It took me three seasons to win my first race.  My Mom & Grandpa put me in a very slow 16-second car for my first jr. dragster when all of the other kids were running 8.90 seconds.  I had to learn to cut good lights in a very unresponsive car, drive at the top end, and every aspect of safety as well as technique.  I also had to learn about having good sportsmanship, as well as the importance of showmanship.  We have to be good spokespeople for our sport and promote it as much as we can through talking to our friends at school and participating in car shows to bring public awareness.  This sport is hard...there is only one winner/trophy at the end of the day.  If you are not determined to do your best every time you line up at the lights, you will never be the one holding that trophy.

What are some of your racing accomplishments?
2015
-Top Performer in the May/June 2015 issue of National Jr. Dragster
-2015 NHRA Jr. Drag Racing Western Conference Finals Lucas Oil Age Group Race Winner

2018
-18th Annual Casa Grande Main Street Fair/Car Show Competition Car Class Winner
-Currently 2nd in the points for the 13-17 year old class of the Wild Horse Pass Summit Series

What are your goals for this season?
Last season I finished 4th in the NHRA Division 7 Jr. Championship Series.  I would like to finish in the top 3 this season.  I recently licensed in the Jr. Street category, so I am looking forward to competing in that class as well.  In May of last year, we purchased a Super Comp Dragster for me to start practicing in; I can't drive it competitively until I am 16, but I can sure do a lot of 60' launches and get it figured out!

I also want to focus on bringing more public awareness to drag racing on the track.  There are a lot of high school kids, as well as kids my age, who are getting hurt participating in street racing.  If they came to the track, they would be doing something fun in a controlled, safe environment.

What activities do you enjoy outside of racing?
I am currently involved in band at my school playing both the baritone and the trumpet.  I also enjoy shooting archery, racing Traxxas r/c cars and trucks, and playing video games.
